Blockchain and DLTs are shared databases accessible to all the members of a network. When a shared database is made up of interconnected and immutable blocks of information, it is known as a blockchain. This offers solutions representing a qualitative step-change, using technologies that will alter the way we store and share information and overturning the idea that centralised control over a physical database ensures greater security.
Membership of Hyperledger is in keeping with the strategic guidelines set out in the Strategic Plan, Deliver 2022. These aim to reinforce Poste Italiane’s digital leadership, accelerating the process of acquiring new capabilities and experimenting with the use of blockchain and DLTs in order to better understand their potential as drivers of business innovation.
Hyperledger is a multi-venture, multi-stakeholder effort that includes various enterprise blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. Members of the global collaboration include leaders in finance, banking, Internet of Things, supply chains, manufacturing and Technology.
In a period in which digital evolution is rapidly enabling new services, data security is of growing importance. Against this backdrop, blockchain has the potential to offer an effective response to the issues of security, transparency, interoperability and privacy, and Poste Italiane is committed to making it readily accessible in order to benefit the Italian economy.
